Who Are We?

H. Courtney McLaughlin, President

Cndxrl42T1%252Bnz8nNR7pWWQ_edited_edited

Courtney has over 35 years of experience on Wall Street, with his last 20 years starting and running a group at Credit Suisse that advised CEO’s and CFO’s of risk-mitigation strategies pertaining to their foreign exchange risk as it related to acquisitions and disposals of cross-border assets. He and his colleagues created a product specifically designed to hedge out acquisition/disposal price risk – the deal-contingent FX forward. His current business is very similar to what he used to do. He speaks to clients and points out risks that they may or may not be aware of and then proposes cost-efficient solutions to help mitigate those risks. Courtney’s passion is helping clients to identify and manage the risks that they have in their lives and businesses with a thoughtful approach and helps prepare them for their future. He is a low-key, conversational advisor. “My job is to intellectually point out the risks and solutions in order for the client to make an informed decision. The decision may be ‘no’ but my job is to highlight the facts to the client and let them make the decision.” He believes very strongly that too many Financial Advisors “push product” rather than help clients. He believes that the way to grow a business is a relentless focus on your clients.

Courtney’s focus is on Estate Planning, Retirement Income Planning, Retirement Strategies, Insurance Strategies, Business Owners, and Business Succession Planning. Courtney has his Series 7, 24, 63, 65, and his Life, Accident and Health, Credit and Property and Casualty insurance licenses.  He has a Master of Science degree in Management Information Systems and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Boston University.  Courtney has his Retired Income Certified Professional (RICP) designation from The American College of Financial Services.

Courtney started his career in 1985 at Lehman Brothers where he was the first person on Wall Street to fully automate the Value Line Stock Index basket arbitrage. After his time at Lehman, he went out on his own where he traded interest rates, stock index futures, precious metals, and foreign exchange on a percentage of profit basis. In 1992, he took a job at JP Morgan Chase where he covered some of the largest money managers in the world -- helping them execute their foreign exchange strategies. In 1999, he was hired away by DLJ (now Credit Suisse) where he started his hedging business. Courtney is an avid reader of the history of the financial markets. In his career he has experienced: The 1987 stock market crash, 1990 S&L crisis, 1994 Orange County CA bankruptcy, 1998 Long Term Capital collapse, 2000 tech wreck, 2008 housing crisis, and the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic. He has a knowledge of the markets and is always happy to share his experience with his clients.
